Change
Today’s Daily Reflection invites you to safely come near Grief and move toward healing.
Intention
Set your intention to face this sudden change the best that you can and know when to ask for help.
NOTICE
Notice what the word change means to you today. Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher, is quoted as saying “change is the only constant in life.” When change is positive, it can be easier to accept. Although as humans, we often stay in our comfort zone and resist change. When change happens through an event we do not want, this is much more challenging. Notice how you feel about change, in particular - this change.
EMOTION
How are you feeling today? Yesterday we talked about the importance of naming emotions in order to tame them. I have included an emotion wheel on my grief reflection page above the daily podcasts. This visual aid can be helpful to use when you are looking for a more specific word to describe how you feel.
Remember, do not judge how you feel. Validate your feelings. Sometimes you may have a mixture of emotions. At times you may feel numb or shut down and then suddenly have a rush of big feelings. It is okay to have these experiences. And It is okay not to feel okay.
ACTION
Put your feet firmly on the floor. Feel the floor beneath you. Now take a deep breath in let your belly rise and . . . hold . . . and when you are ready slowly exhale . . . letting your shoulders relax. Let’s do that again. Take another deep breath in let your belly rise . . . hold . . . and exhale - slow and controlled.
Bring your attention to where you are sitting. How does the seat beneath you feel? Is it firm or soft? Notice it beneath your legs. Do you feel supported in this seat?
Now take one hand and touch the surface of your seat. Pay attention to how it feels on your hand. Just be in this moment with your hand on the surface, noticing how it feels. Now bring your attention back to your feet on the floor. How does this feel? What do you notice? Today if you feel overwhelmed, remember to take some deep breaths like we did above and bring your focus on your feet. Feel the solid ground beneath your feet and know that you are supported. You are not alone.
